Many marketers don’t use social media the way they should, or are supposed to. It has been disregarded and used inaccurately for too long. Social media, however, is treated wrongly at your own peril. For every time you mistreat it, it backfires on your business. Use social media kindly, and as it was intended and supposed to be. Only then can you find its advantages.

The primary goal of your social media company is to socialize. Before you think of lead generation, try and remember what it first became popular for. And it still stands strong today; there is no better platform to socialize on than social media. Before you start inundating your audience with ads, befriend them. It is like getting to know a potential friend, in the traditional sense. When you make friends, you are sociable, friendly and most of all you are yourself. Be confident, yet personable. Listen to criticism, be approachable and always available. It is more about getting to know people than reaching out to them.

It is important you have a brand presence, but having social media networks for all your business profiles may be going a tad too far. You don’t have to get be on all of them, pick which social media channel would suit your business best. The link between businesses and customers are more personal than ever before. However, it should be balanced, where you are not going to an extreme on any channel. With numerous social media networks out there, businesses can have an online presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google +, LinkedIn and Snapchat to name a few.

Stop using hashtags relentlessly. Too many hashtags will make you seem desperate. Instead, be confident in your business and the ability to promote your brand using a balanced approach. Hashtags are great if you are smart and funny with them. Make them memorable, this is what social media management is all about.

Promising too much, but not keeping up to the expectations of your audience. If you promise much, deliver as much. Publish amazing content not just once, but every single time, spend time optimizing posts and track your bounce rate, this is a good indication of how well your posts are perceived.

Be generous with social media management strategy. Give your audience things to get excited about, it may be a giveaway, contest, freebies, prizes or discounts. Make yourself appear generous in front of your audience. When they see you are willing to share your generosity with them, they will in turn open their pocketbooks for you.
