As May seems to have disappeared into thin air, it was certainly hectic in the social media world. We are here to look at some highlights of social media campaigns that if you didn’t pay attention to, you would have missed in a blink.

Instagram and face filters

First up, Instagram launched face filters. It is an 8 face filter which features slideshows and disappearing messages. Users can jazz up their faces with koala ears, butterfly crowns and nerdy glasses. Very similar to Snapchat, early reviews suggest it is still getting into the thick of things, and may not be as slick. Users, however, are willing to take a chance on it.

Snapchat’s growth rate

The growth rate it seems has been disappointing of late. The first quarterly earnings report indicated less than expected results. The growth rate was 5% with its current standing at 166 million daily active uses. The first year quarter was down from the fourth quarter in 2016.

Twitter record by Carter

Do you remember Ellen DeGeneres’ Twitter record? Her photo at the Oscars was the most retweeted photo in the history of Twitter. Looks like someone stole Ellen’s crown. A chap names Carter Wilkerson wanted to win a year’s supply of nuggets from Wendy’s and he beat Ellen’s record by getting his request retweeted 3,632,995 times.

Dove’s real beauty initiative

Did you hear about Dove’ personalized bottles? What was supposed to be a positive and empowering campaign turned out to be rather disappointing? People were offended by it. The idea to create Dove bottles in different shapes of women didn’t come off as well as they had hoped. While it was done with good intention, women everywhere were not too pleased.

Airbnb in Sweden

Sweden has invited you to stay there for free, and by this we mean the whole country. It is not often a country shows this level of genorosity. It is in fact, an awareness campaign to focus on the natural beauty and freedom of the country.

Babies and Snapchat

Evian babies have returned, this time with a Live Young campaign. Babies are dressed in grownup clothes, encouraging adults to feel young again. This time the campaign is not just appearing on televisions, but also digital and social media channels.
