Have you ever wondered why viewers leave your website and stay on for hours on others? You may have done this yourself. For example, you would found a website particularly engaging and decided to stay on it until you could investigate further. And there have been times when you couldn’t leave fast enough.

You think if you build a reasonably professional website, people will come. This might work for football games, for websites; however, it is a totally different story. What are the game changers that make people leave a site without as much as a glance? Is your content share worthy or engaging? Is your site focused with a clear structure? Let’s look at some common mistakes businesses make when constructing their websites. You may think these are small reasons but in fact, they are big enough reasons to keep folks away.

Yes, proper site navigation goes along way

It is hard enough attracting a potential customer. It is harder to keep them engaged even for a few minutes. What is important is you minimize user frustration by designing a site to keep that frustration at bay. This means proper site navigation. If navigation is less than, folks will not stick around. Slow uploads and hard navigation will leave users feeling angry and frustrated. And this is not how you want your potential customers to feel.

Minimize on flash and pop-up ads

Pop up ads and flash ads will leave your visitors feeling suffocated. You can run ads on your website, but as a rule, it shouldn’t be the first thing people see when they enter your site. Avoid showcasing more ads than original content.

Bad content structure will see viewers fleeing

A site conversion rate can be destroyed by bad content structure. The content should be easy to access, especially contact information. Statistics reveal 50% of conversion rates are lost because visitors couldn’t find what they were looking for. Don’t let visitors go on a treasure hunt to find content that is meant to be found. Content should be structured in a clear and concise manner.

Read first, register later

Do not force your visitors to register before viewing content. Let visitors view whatever they like, and if they continue to stay on you can send a pop-up request asking for registration. Respect their space first, and your request will be respected in return.

How design and content should be memorable

If the design is boring or the content is not authentic, it will certainly put of visitors. A dull website does not insinuate a memorable experience. And that’s what businesses should aim to offer. Visitors should have an experience like no other. A site with an incredible design and engaging and compelling content will grab the attention of people. If visitors have a negative experience, they are unlikely to return.
