Did you know colour sways over people’s attitudes and emotions? When you look at colour it communicates with a certain region of your brain. Upon this communication hormones are released which result in moods and emotions. These emotions can be either positive or negative. Do website colours affect conversions? Yes it does, big time.

When researching colour psychology, studies have indicated colour impacts people’s behaviour. While it may be difficult to test this theory fully the key fact is it is an indisputable theory, so you cannot dismiss the significance of colours on a website.

How can you incorporate colour to your website? For instance, a colour scheme would be visible in the headline, hero graphics, borders, buttons, background and pop-ups. How do you use the right colour? This is tricky because it has to be used for the right audience, in the right time and the right way. For instance, if you are selling bouncy castles you don’t want to use black on your website. You need lots of vibrant colours like bright red, green or yellow. Bouncy castles obviously mean younger children and parents of children. If you are selling a product for women, white and black are significantly used, because women are known to respond to these particular colours.

Did you know women prefer blue, green and purple over gray and orange? In recent surveys conducted women attested to preferring blue, followed by purple and then green. Now if you play this out in your website design which targets women’s products, it makes sense to avoid earthy tones.

What about men, which colours do they prefer? Men like green, black and blue over purple and orange. If you have a men only product or service to market use colours associated with maleness. It also seems that brown is not much of favourite with either group.

For all call to actions, use bright and vibrant colours. Primary colours are the highest converting colours giving your website increased conversion rates.

Don’t forget about white. White is a forgotten feature because not everyone can agree if it is a colour or not. White space can be powerful in terms of website design, and if you take Google, for instance, it is all white.

A lot can be accomplished in terms of web design and development if your web design company uses colours in the right way.
